Holy Cross High School prizegiving Virtual presentation Honours hard work

- LEONA GREENAN

In a year when many events were either cancelled or postponed, the senior school awards ceremony at Holy Cross High School went ahead – albeit digitally.

The event was filmed and placed on a special online channel for parents and carers to access and share in the celebration.

While the procedures for recognising and rewarding the achievements of so many of the school’s young people in S4, S5 and S6 remained the same, there was no live audience, special guests or musical performances.

This was an event which meant so much to not only the pupils, but all the staff.

Having their achievements recognised in a variety of fields, in a most difficult year, was an inspiration to them all.

Head teacher John Reilly summed up the mood of the school community by saying: “In 2020 all of our young people had to deal with so much as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“That our senior school awards ceremony took place at all is testament to the perseverance and commitment of the staff, who were determined to stage the awards ceremony for the young people.

“As head teacher of such a wonderful school, I am absolutely delighted for all of our award winners, and wish to offer them all – and their parents/carers – my sincere congratulations.

“Watching all of these young people receive their certificates was quite emotional and we look forward to better times in future when the joy of an event such as this can be shared.”
