Rovers boss not getting hopes up

-

Carluke Rovers boss Mark Weir is against the West of Scotland Football League returning only to be suspended again.

Dave Mckenna, the WOSFL chairman, exclusively revealed online to Lanarkshire Live Sport that the successful vaccination rollout provides hope for a return to action this season.

But Weir is cautious about getting overly optimistic and the Rovers boss doesn’t want yet another false dawn.

He said:“i still believe that the season should just be called to a halt and restart next season. We should wait until it is completely up and running.

“The numbers are going down but I think the virus will be like a flu and it won’t go away completely.

“We don’t want to go back to square one again where it’s stop-start again.

“I know we need to get back to playing eventually but I’d rather wait until we are all vaccinated. I know it’s going by age brackets but I hope they can get us all in and jabbed before we return.

“Carluke and every other club are back to square one with the lay off. When we go back, it would be better to get a full pre-season ahead of a new season rather than rushing to finish one for no reason.”

Debate has raged on social media between players and coaches about how many weeks would be required for players to return to action. However, given the current situation, Weir believes that IF the leagues restart then fixtures should be scheduled immediately to fit in as many games as possible.

He said:“i’m at the stage now that I think we should just get straight into games. Train twice in the week then start the games at the weekend.”

Bruce & Marios dream team

With Marios Ogkmpoe now having the perfect strike partner in Bruce Anderson, Accies - all of a sudden - are an imposing proposition.

The Aberdeen loanee is the perfect foil for the big Greek striker, feeding off his lay-offs, and their link up play since has been a joy for fans to watch.

Both were on target in the derby triumph and, on this evidence, they could prove to be the savours for Accies in this relegation dogfight alongside the ever-impressive Ross Callachan. Anderson, in particular, has invigorated Accies and his addition seems to have lifted an entire squad, who believe they have the final piece of the jigsaw to fully compete.

Rich reward for Rice

Brian Rice has had his fair share of criticism from sections of the Accies support this season, but even his most fervent of critics will have been impressed by the upturn in performances.

This is the third time Accies have beaten Motherwell this season and Accies have only picked up six wins all campaign.

Rice has‘well’s number as that’s also the third successive away derby win – as well as a third win in the last four games.

Rice has endured a hugely frustrating season in terms of bringing in players, but key signings that have come through like Odoffin, Aaron Martin, Hodson, Callachan and

Anderson are paying dividends.

Confidence is high

Accies came out the traps quickly and in the early exchanges it was clear they were up for it, forcing the issue, being brave on the ball.

Fans may be disappointed they seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second half as Motherwell needed a miracle to mount a comeback. But the way in which Accies moved the ball about and got in behind will provide major encouragement.
