Man, that is snow cool!

Couple create stunning sculpture

- MATT BRYAN

An Uddingston couple got creative and cheered up their neighbours with their fantastic snow sculpture.

After bouts of snow covered most of Scotland last week, Lesley and Stewart Mclellan decided to craft life-size models of a father and son sitting on their garden bench at their home in Kyle park.

The couple later placed a football next to them to show them relaxing on the bench after a kick-about.

The masterpiece was fondly named ‘dad and his Bairn’ and was the talk of the street, with locals passing by to take photos.

Lesley was delighted to see her little project make so many smile during the doom and gloom of lockdown.

She said: “it all started when we were clearing the path and thought ‘what do we do with all this snow?’

“Rather than just having mountains of snow at the side of the path, we decided to just build something and it ended up becoming more elaborate, so we made the man sitting upright.

“Then we got more snow, so we built the boy sitting next to him.”

Stewart was in charge of shovelling the mountains of snow, while Lesley built the sculpture, which soon became popular with locals.

“I had never done anything like that before so that was a first attempt to do something that elaborate”, Lesley added. “It was really enjoyable doing it.

“Rather than doing a bog-standard Olaf or something, we thought it was better to do something a bit different.”

The sculpture only took around an hour-and-ahalf to put together and did well to stay in place considering Lesley and Stewart’s garden faces the sun.

Now that the snow has cleared,‘dad and his Bairn’ have sadly melted, but it managed to put smiles on a lot of faces.
