Police say know when to spot signs

The “Young Scot” organisati­on, in partnershi­p with Scottish Women’s Aid and Rape Crisis Scotland, have created a new online resource to help young people spot the signs of gender-based violence.

Young Scot say: “No matter what your relationsh­ip is with someone, you should be treated with kindness and respect. Know how to spot the signs that something isn’t right and say, `That’s Not OK’.

`That’s Not OK’ is a Young Scot campaign and on online resource providing informatio­n on sexual assault, exploitati­on, rape, coercive control and other types of abuse such as physical, financial and verbal.

On March 16 police were called to the area of Kelvin Gardens regarding a suspicious male who had been seen trying to open the doors of various cars parked in the street and also trying to open various closed doors.

Police attended and traced a male who attempted to make off on seeing police arrive. A 32 year old male was arrested and has been charged with an alleged attempted theft.

On March 17 police were called to an incident of theft by housebreak­ing at an address in Clyde Avenue, Bothwell where the householde­rs were unsure if they had locked their door. Two vehicles were stolen during the theft.

One vehicle was recovered following a road traffic accident on Carlisle Road, Larkhall and the second vehicle was recovered after making off from the police in Morcambe, near Lancaster.

Two male youths ages 13 and 15 have been charged.

This incident was linked to a similar attempted theft from an address on Dunlop Crescent, Bothwell where CCTV footage showed two males gaining access to a vehicle and attempting to gain access to an address.

Please remember that criminals continue to take advantage of property owners forgetting or neglecting to lock their doors. It is important to safeguard your property.

On March 16 police were called to an address on West Clyde Street, Larkhall, regarding a vehicle having been taken without the permission of the owner.

Police quickly traced the vehicle being driven on Craigbank Street.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle which made off at speed and in a dangerous manner, where it mounted the pavement on several occasions and narrowly missed striking pedestrian­s and other vehicles.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver attempted to make off however was apprehende­d. A 35 year old male has been charged with a number of alleged offences under the Road Traffic Act 1988. If you have any relevant informatio­n or matters you feel should be reported to the police, call `101’.
