Brian is in peak condition to raise cash for charity
A Hamilton dad has taken on the latest challenge to raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Brian Thomson, of Eddlewood, was able to return to his fundraising recently after a time away from it due to Covid restrictions.
And he completed a ‘24 peaks in 24 hours challenge’ in the Lake District in a bid to raise funds for Diabetes UK. Over the years, Brian has walked through the Sahara
Desert, and completed a number of treks including Everest Base Camp, to raise cash for the charity which has helped his daughter Hayley, who has type 1 diabetes.
Brian said: “It’s been a while since I last did any challenges due to Covid, but last weekend I was in Ambleside in the Lake District to take on the 24 peaks in 24 hours challenge with Global Adventure Challenges, which I managed to complete successfully.
“There were 24 of us, coincidentally; 21 completed the challenge, the others dropping out due to injuries.
“We climbed nine peaks on day one including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England at 3208ft /978m. T
“The weather was horrendous from Bowfell (peak one) up until Scafell Pike (peak six) but thankfully improved for the remaining three peaks.
“Thankfully, on day two the weather was fantastic for us to complete the remaining 15 peaks, the highest being Helvellyn standing at 3116ft /950m.”
Brian added: “It’s certainly right up there with other challenges I’ve done over the years, like Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp, as one of the toughest challenges I have done. But on the plus side I made some new friends and have managed to raise £4260 so far for Diabetes UK.
