Sacked Bellshill boss calls for SFA investigation

-

Derek Wilson has asked the SFA to launch an investigation into Bellshill Athletic after he was sacked as manager of the club.

Athletic’s West of Scotland League Conference A match against Maryhill match on Saturday was postponed after Wilson and his coaching staff were relieved of their duties.

Bellshill have lost just four of their opening 14 league games.

Wilson was notified by the club’s committee over the phone. It comes following the players’decision to lodge a vote of no confidence against the Bellshill board.

“It’s a bit of a disgrace,”said Wilson. “The players put in a vote of no confidence against the committee so I have to back the players at the end of the day.

“The boys have stood by me. I have players down at Bellshill who don’t get paid one penny - I don’t get paid a penny.

“The SFA - at the highest level - have been sent emails regarding exactly what’s going on. That was before I got the sack. I’ve sent a couple of emails to different people and we are awaiting them to investigate.

“Hopefully in time they investigate it as what’s going on at Bellshill is absolutely shocking.

“There’s a great bunch of boys there who were doing well. To be treated like this is a total, total disgrace.

“I hope the SFA look into it as there’s no point other clubs going through this. I could open a can of worms.”

Wilson and his players are furious with the decision, which prompted fiery responses on social media.

Bellshill Athletic’s own Facebook account said it was“shocking behaviour from an unfit committee.”

Club captain Drew Lindsay added that“all the players are behind Del and the management.”

A statement issued by the club read: “With immediate effect, Derek Wilson, and his coaching staff have been relieved of their positions at Bellshill.

“We thank them for the time and effort that they have put into their roles and wish them well for the future.”
