Tributes to ‘soul brother’ who was big noise on music scene

- LEONA GREENAN

Tributes have been paid to a wellknown Uddingston‘music’man who died suddenly after contracting coronavirus.

Kwik-fit worker Michael Maccrimmon, who previously owned nightclubs with his family, was a regular at the Sub Club in Glasgow over the years, often seen spinning the decks and delivering rare funk music to the audience.

He had received both his first and second Covid vaccinations and followed all the guidance, but sadly passed away earlier last week.

He leaves behind his loving wife Pamela and children.

Devastated friends posted tributes to Michael on social media, describing him as a “Glasgow legend” and a “good man”.

Friend and workmate Elaine Armour also set up a fundraising page to offer financial help to his family following his death.

She posted: “Michael suddenly passed away as a result of Covid-19, leaving behind his children and wife Pamela.

“Michael was double jabbed and followed all the right guidance, however, it wasn’t enough to protect him.

“Michael was a wonderful and loyal husband, father and friend.

“He was an amazing storyteller and everyone who knew Michael loved him for this.

“He was always telling jokes and stories about his life experiences from owning nightclubs with his family, working in the ship yards and insurance.

“Michael not only had a love and passion for his wife and children, but he loved music and generally life!

“Michael was a special person. He had the ability to light up a room and leave it in hysterical laughter.”

Another friend said: “I am saddened to hear that Michael Maccrimmon has passed away.

“The Maccrimmons’ contribution to the history of the Sub Club is well documented and respected and, with Michael’s passing, we have lost a true Soul Brother.”

And another added: “I’m so sad hearing this news.

“He was a good man and did a lot for club culture.”

One woman said: “Thank you Michael for the music and the dance.

“Rest in peace.”

And another music fan simply said: “Another Glasgow legend gone.”

A service was held last Friday for anyone who wanted to pay their respects, at Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Uddingston.
