Ambassador role for Miss Scotland
Miss Scotland beauty Claudia Todd has been named as an ambassador for the country’s only dedicated first aid charity.
The Bothwell businesswoman has joined the fold at St Andrew’s First Aid in a move aimed at supporting the organisation in encouraging more people to take up mental health first aid training.
And after undergoing training earlier this month, Claudia successfully completed the course and achieved her certification.
The 25-year-old has since been working with the charity to find out more about the how she can equip herself with a set of valuable skills to better understand, help and support those who struggle with mental health.
Claudia told the Advertiser: “In the digital age that we live in, our mental health can have a huge effect on all of our lives and take many different forms.
“As Miss Scotland, I wish to use my platform to become an inspiring mental health advocate and to establish a positive impact for the younger generation who have found the restriction of the last 18 months particularly challenging.
“This training has been invaluable in providing techniques and skills to help you identify people who may be facing struggles of their own, as well as knowledge in how best to reach out and offer support.
“I feel so much more confident now and know that I will be able to do something positive to help others when they need it most.”
The St Andrew’s First Aid chief executive said he is delighted to have Claudia on board.
Stuart Callison told us: “Having Claudia come on board is wonderful news and we are confident she will be a great ambassador in helping us promote the importance and value in being first aid trained and supporting mental health awareness.
“Our training gives people an insight and understanding into mental health and teaches them how to acknowledge and reach out to offer help when they can see potential problems.
“Most importantly, it helps to open up conversations around mental wellbeing and creates a safe environment for those conversations to be had, which is vital to support those positive actions that can be taken to alleviate the stigma around mental health.”
