Morrisons join our toy appeal
With a little over six weeks to Christmas Day, the team at the Hamilton Advertiser are working their socks off to gather in as many gifts and toys as possible for disadvantaged children across South Lanarkshire.
And as well our toy appeal partners at The Salvation Army’s Hamilton branch, the Advertiser is delighted to announce some extra help from our friends at Morrisons supermarket in New Park Street. The team there – including community champions Shell Foley and Kimberly Cairns – got in touch with us last week offering to donate some toys and gifts, as well as supporting the appeal further by setting up a drop-off cage in store for those who may wish to contribute a gift while they are out buying their weekly shop.
It is another welcome boost to a Christmas campaign which is aimed at
helping to ease some of the pressure some families may find them selves under if they are struggling this December 25.
These donations will help to make up more than 800 parcels for those less fortunate in the South Lanarkshire area – but so much more is still required!
And the team is asking kind readers to purchase a brand new toy, games, nightwear or winter woolies for a child aged newborn to 12.
For the older children aged from 13 to 18, we require gift/fragrance sets, make up, handbags, sports equipment or gift vouchers.
They can be dropped in to Morrisons Hamilton, at either of the town’s Starbucks coffee shops at
Hamilton Retail Park or at Palace Grounds Retail Park or at Rocca Restaurant on Cadzow Street, Hamilton.
Items – including cash donations – can also be delivered to the Salvation Army on Burnblea Street, Hamilton, every Monday from 10am to 12pm.
Alternatively contact Advertiser Toy Appeal coordinator Leona Greenan on leona.greenan@reachplc. com to arrange collection or for further details about the appeal.
Reporter Leona is delighted with how the appeal is going so far and said: “The new toys and goodies are coming in thick and fast now, but we require so much more to fulfil social work services’ lists across South Lanarkshire.
“We also like to help with other referrals from doctors, health teams, refuges etc so the more donations we receive the better for everyone.
“The toys and gifts will then be collected middecember by the council’s social work staff and then distributed to needy children living in Hamilton, Blantyre, Bothwell, Uddingston, Larkhall and Clydesdale and beyond.”
