Dreaming of a light Xmas

Switch-on is this weekend

- LEONA GREENAN

Christmas comes to Hamilton this Sunday with the much-anticipated, and hugely popular, charity lights switchon event in Alness Terrace.

Iain Fleming and his festive family have finally started the countdown to illuminate their entire home.

The dad-of-three will once again light up the skies with literally thousands of twinkling Christmas lights in a magical display that encompasses his house and garden, with all money raised from his kind-hearted efforts once again going to the Les Hoey Dreammaker Foundation.

And Iain can’t wait to welcome the crowds back to his property to witness the spectacular display, that has taken him the last 10 weeks to set up, having been forced to host a virtual switch-on last year due to the pandemic.

The event will take place on Sunday, November 14, with a full line-up of fun from 5.30pm, including Stevie Lennon on the decks, the light switch-on live at 6pm, followed by James Grant singing some Christmas songs. Santa will also make a visit.

Iain said: “Our chosen charity this year is the fantastic Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation SCIO who we have supported for the last few years. The Dreammakers work miracles to give terminally ill kids their dreams come true.

“Please note the lights this year are at a new location in Alness Terrace, Hamilton, ML3 6TQ. However, this is only five minutes from the old location and we cannot wait to see everyone.

“We missed last year due to the coronavirus situation, so let’s make this switch on one to remember.”

This will be the twelfth year Iain has put on a charity display, having raised thousands of pounds over the years for Les’ charity, who make wishes come true for sick kids.

He uses thousands of bulbs and takes weeks of meticulous planning to erect the display perfectly for the public.

Iain asks that visitors on the night or during November and December simply make a donation to his charity buckets/tins.
