Generous bingo players support our toy appeal
Bingo! What a result for the Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal, as Mecca Hamilton pledged their support this week.
Staff at the popular bingo hall have set up a ‘give a gift’ tree at the front entrance where customers are being encouraged to take a tag and buy a new toy or gift set for a disadvantaged child this festive season.
And so far the reaction to our appeal among
Mecca customers has been fantastic, with dozens of bingo players offering to help by taking a tag and purchasing an item.
In what has been another difficult year, the Advertiser team has been astounded with the level of support from our community.
We’ve already had hundreds of gifts handed in at our appeal drop off points at Morrison’s Hamilton, as well as at Rocca Restaurant on Cadzow Street and the town’s two Starbucks coffee shops.
Our friends at Happy Feet Nursery in Larkhall are also back taking donations in for us this year from those in the Larkhall, Stonehouse and Strathaven areas.
And we’re delighted to announce also that toys and gifts can once again be handed in to our toy appeal partners at Hamilton Salvation Army on Burnblea Street, from Monday, November 29, from 10am till noon.
Toys must be brand new and unwrapped and for children aged newborn to 12 years-old. For the hundreds of teenagers in need across our county, gift sets or gift cards can be purchased.
We also accept pyjama sets, new clothes with tags and winter woollies for all ages.
Advertiser editor Robert Mitchell said: “The toy appeal is a huge project that we undertake every year in a bid to give local children a magical Christmas.
“Every child on social work services, as well as the dozens of outside referrals we receive, will wake up to an array of presents this December 25 thanks to the support of our loyal readers.
“So please, if you can, consider helping a disadvantaged family this festive season by purchasing a toy and handing it in to one of our many drop points.
“And thank you to those who have already donated their gifts.”
