Tributes to well-known businessma­n

Tributes have been paid following the death of a wellknown Hamilton businessma­n.

James ‘Jimmy’ Tyrrell, of Tyrrells of Burnbank furniture and flooring, passed away peacefully last Thursday, aged 84, surrounded by his family.

Joining the shop in 1957, Jimmy was an integral part of the family business for 65 years, leading the team with a warm and kind heart, expecting nothing other than first class customer service.

In a social media post to customers, staff said: “Jimmy was a well-respected man of the community and much loved by customers to whom he also had the pleasure of calling friends.

“He was very proud of Tyrrells of Burnbank and his passion and love for the business and, most importantl­y, its customers will continue to live on.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their condolence­s and heartfelt messages.”

Customers, those who worked for the company over the years and fellow business owners paid tribute to the Lanarkshir­e entreprene­ur.

Carol Cameron posted: “May you rest in peace, Mr T – a legend, personally and in the business community.”

And Craig Dyer said: “It’s 33 years since we first had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy. As so many have said, he was an absolute gem, a fantastic character, a warm, caring personalit­y and a man of his word. Sincere condolence­s to his loving family and many friends.”

Maureen Rodgers added: “Jimmy was in our company at Lourdes many years ago, we all enjoyed his many stories and tales of his interestin­g life. He was a lovely gentleman.

“RIP Jimmy. Condolence­s to the family.”

Others described him as having a “great sense of humour” and a “lovely gentleman.”
