Date is set for the new M&S foodhall

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

Marks and Spencer have announced their new foodhall store in Hamilton is set to open on Wednesday, March 30.

Store bosses say all workers from the current M&S in the Regent Shopping Centre will transfer to the new location at Hamilton Retail Park.

The Advertiser previously told how the chain made a decision last September to shut their town centre store, which had been in the area since 1968, as part of a reshaping of the business.

This new foodhall is substantially bigger than the pervious one, covering 11,500 sq ft and offering 500 new product lines.

The store will have a fresh market feel, bold neon lighting, ‘Pick your own’ eggs and the arrival of Scan and Shop, with store bosses saying it’s set to take food shopping to a new level.

There is also free parking directly outside the store and longer opening hours.

The shop will be led by store manager Lorraine Mcgurk, alongside all 51 staff who have transferred from the Regent

Shopping Centre.

The opening will consist of a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Percy Pig will be kilted up to welcome shoppers as the team hands out 200 golden tickets to the first customers through the door.

Every golden ticket holder will be guaranteed a win – whether it’s a free bag of Percy Pigs or freshlybaked cookies from the new bakery, and to mark the occasion one lucky customer will win a £200 M&S voucher.

Ms Mcgurk has worked at M&S for almost 45 years and said: “The whole team at M&S Hamilton are so excited to open the new store and show our regulars the new features.

“With a bigger foodhall, bold Scottish branding and an exciting opening day to look forward to, we feel lucky to be a part of the new development. The free parking and longer opening hours are sure to please the community and we hope this will allow us to get to know even more lovely locals.”

The store will be located at 6 Douglas Park Lane and will be open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, Saturday from 8am to 7pm and Sunday from 9am to 7pm.
