Blantyrewill keepfighting forpoints

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

Blantyre Vics won’t go down without a fight from the West of Scotland Premier League, and intend to impact on promotion and relegation as much as they can.

Boss John Gibson is aware that teams are desperate for points at this stage in the season, with a visit to relegationfighting Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday followed by a visit by title-chasing Darvel next midweek.

While Vics’fate is sealed, Gibson says they’ll do everything they can to win their remaining games, as the look ahead to next season.

He said:“this season is just about trying to get as many points as we can and win as many games as we can and try to find that formula, and take it on to next season.

“These teams need a win, everybody’s desperate for a win, and every team we play against is up for it, so we’ve got four big games left.

“Darvel are coming to Blantyre next midweek and they’re trying to win it, so the last few games we’ve got are important for other clubs.

“We’ve got to make sure our players are up for it, and give as good account of themselves as we can.

“We’re not stopping because it means nothing to us – it means a lot to us and the last thing I want is my team to go down and not working hard.”

Gibson refused to use the sudden passing away of club stalwart Andy Mcdade as an excuse for a 4-0 hammering at home to Cumnock on Monday night, but conceded it was hard to get his players motivated.

He said:“we’ve been going all right, but that was a wee downfall for us.

“It was hard to get the players going, but I wouldn’t use that as an excuse, because we weren’t good.

“We had a few injuries and suspensions, a couple of players missing, so we had a few of the young boys in. My job is to build them for next season now, to get the right blend and the right players in, and then we can have another go at it.”
