Ryan Fulton is aware Hamilton’s final Championship match of the season was far from good enough – but he insists their entire term shows progress.

Tom Walsh’s brace plus Joe Hardy and Shane Sutherland strikes had Accies concede four in 28 minutes and eventually lose 4-0 in the Highlands last Friday.

Stuart Taylor’s side finish their first campaign back in Scotland’s second tier following Premiership relegation in sixth after a term of highs and lows.

There’s been inconsistencies throughout their campaign, like losing 6-1 to Partick Thistle at home last year but winning 4-0 away earlier in 2022.

Goalkeeper Fulton says though that starting like they did at the Caledonian Stadium will only lead to more heavy losses.

He said:“the way we started is not acceptable at all and we apologise to the fans for that.

“The second half was a bit better. But we can’t start games like this.

“It was frustrating for everyone. We needed to go back to basics, keep our shape and not concede again. We let ourselves crumble and it got too far away for us.”

Fulton knows it’s been an inconsistent season at Accies but believes that not a whole lot has to change in order to find consistent improvement.

Small errors though have to be cut out of their game, as they were punished for it routinely in second tier action. A heavy defeat to Inverness now lingers until their Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign starts in the summer.

The 25-year-old added:“it’s not acceptable and unfortunately there’s not a lot we can do about right now. There has been ups and downs for us.

“We haven’t got a mountain to climb, it’s just the little things we need to fix. We need to cut those mistakes out and hopefully begin to kick on.”
