Brute beat woman at his home

-

A woman suffered fractures to her jaw and cheekbone when she was beaten up by her on-off boyfriend.

David Lees also left a voicemail for the woman, warning he would “cut you a new f ***** g face”.

Lees, 38, admitted abusive behaviour towards the woman at his home in Avon Crescent, Strathaven, between March 31 and April 6 last year.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he and the 40-year-old victim had been seeing each other for about a year.

They had been out drinking on March 31 but when they returned to his home Lees became aggressive, made nasty comments and headbutted his girlfriend, causing her to fall and leaving her in great pain.

The next day the woman said she wanted to go back to her home but Lees wouldn’t let her.

Fearing another assault, she lifted a cup and struck him on the head.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said: “The accused became enraged and punched her on the face, causing her to fall to the floor.

Her mouth and nose were bleeding due to her injuries.

“She then fell asleep and the next day texted her sister, mother and uncle who collected her from the accused’s house. They noticed she was extremely upset and had a number of facial injuries.

“The victim attended Glasgow Royal Infirmary where a scan revealed fractures to her jaw and cheek.

“She required reconstructive surgery.

“Fortunately, her treatment was successful but it took some time for the pain and discomfort of her injuries to subside.”

Lees was arrested on April 6 last year and remained in custody until a successful bail application on January 24.

Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until later this month for background reports.
