Boxer David Jamieson wasted no time in his comeback fight with a TKO inside 40 seconds – and has already lined up a potential Commonwealth silver title for June.

If the boxer – who has moved to Hamilton from East Kilbride – isn’t scrapping it out for a title at Summer Showdown on June 22, it will be a stepping stone towards that aim.

In a heavyweight contest, Jamieson made short work of Kaseem Saleem at Crunch Time 2.0 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow on Friday night with the rapid TKO.

He says there are no more‘tick over’ fights left, and everything is aimed at getting Jamieson back in proper title contention, as he moves back down to cruiserweight.

He said:“kaseem was exactly what I expected, and I knew he would be there to hit, but I’m sitting at 105kgs, big and strong at the weight.

“I could always punch, but with that extra weight behind me I can fairly punch.

“I knew Kaseem would be there to hit, I just didn’t think he would be there that early to hit.

“I dropped him the first time, the referee gave him the count, and I could see when I was standing in the neutral corner that he was unsteady on his feet.

“I thought‘right, I’ll just go for it’and let go with a big right-hander over the top. It hit him as cleanly as it possibly could have, and he was away at that.

“I think the KO was around about the 40-second mark, but that’s the tip of the iceberg, because that’s the culmination of four months’hard work there, for 40 seconds.

“But I’m very happy. You don’t get paid for overtime in this game, so the quicker I’m out of there the better.

“Everybody says it would have been good to get the rounds in, but you get the rounds in at the gym, you do all the hard work, and on fight night it’s just about getting the job done.”

Jamieson is back in the ring on Saturday, June 22, at Kynoch’s Summer Showdown at the Crowne Plaza, on the undercard of a WBC Intercontinental youth title fight between Marcus Sutherland and Ruadhan Farrell.

He said:“i think the next one in June will be a catch-weight scenario again, so I don’t need to drop too much weight.

“But the ultimate goal is to get back down to cruiserweight.

“There’s possibly a title on the line for this one as well, a couple of different things we need to get sorted.

“We’re hoping for a Commonwealth Silver title, but if it isn’t, it will be a step towards a title.

“There are no‘tick over’fights now, everything has to serve its purpose for getting us back into title contention.”
