Retail giants to set up shops in borough

More than 60 jobs created by TK Maxx and Screwfix

TWO household names are setting up shops in the borough, creating more than 60 jobs.

Designer discount giant TK Maxx is putting the finishing touches to its new store in the borough, which will create 50 jobs.

The 15,000sqft store in Victoria Road, South Ruislip, is set to open on Thursday, September 18 in Ruislip Retail Park.

Store manager Jeevs Thilakan said: “We are very excited to be opening up the new store and bringing South Ruislip shoppers big savings on all their favourite brands.”

The new store joins the ones already in Hayes and Uxbridge.

Meanwhile, Screwfix is to officially open in Uxbridge in the same week, creating 12 new jobs.

Screwfix trade tools and supplies shop opened at the end of August but will hold a celebrator­y launch weekend between Thursday, September 18 and Sunday, September 21.

Uxbridge store manager Steven Lovelock said he was proud the new branch was helping reduce unemployme­nt in the area.

He said: “We have created 12 brand new vacancies and have employed local people from in and around Uxbridge.

“Our new team includes people of all ages and levels of experience, but the most important requiremen­t is that they have the right attitude and can offer superb customer service.”

Tradesmen and DIY enthusiast­s are invited to the new branch, in Trade City Business Park, Cowley Mill Road, during the launch weekend to take part in a screw drilling competitio­n, when one lucky person will win a 40in Toshiba flat screen TV.

The store will provide a ‘click and collect’ service within five minutes of ordering and Mr Lovelock expects it to be a hit with tradesmen and DIY-ers.

He said: “I’m confident that we’ve got a great location in Uxbridge. My team and I have already been out and about getting to know businesses and tradesmen and we’ve all been struck by how friendly everyone has been.”

The launch weekend will include product ranges at a 10 per cent discount and other special offers.
