Drawing a (double) line under campaign

- IAN SEPHTON Barrington Drive Harefield

AFTER a serious near head-on accident on the evening of November 30, 2013, and hearing from the blue light services about the reputation of this road, and that they never overtake on the Ickenham end of this dangerous road, I took it upon myself to lobby Hillingdon Council to paint double white lines on this stretch of road.

It seemed such an obvious solution to prevent accidents of this sort, that I could not believe this had never been implemented.

After completing a suggestion form supplied by the council and chasing them on several times with the support of your reporter, Hannah Raven, it would appear that we finally have the lines on the road from the 50mph road sign to the railway bridge.

I travelled along this road last night and though I had not received an update from the council after numerous requests, I was almost disbelieving as I admired the two white lines I had spent nine months campaigning for. I was delighted.

My greatest fear was that another serious or fatal accident would happen before I was able to see my campaign through, so I can now close this chapter on my lifechanging accident.

I have never undertaken anything like this before.

Again, I would like to thank the Gazette for your support and coverage of this local news item and I would recommend others to seek your support without hesitation when taking on large faceless organisations or authorities.
