CHAMP BOXES CLEVER TO WIN AWARD

Harefield Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

HAYES Boxing Club’s Abbas Allahdad was crowned ABA London Regional Development champion this week after causing a stunning upset.

Allahdad proved he had iron in his fists to take glory in the U91kg heavyweight division with a stunning third round knockout of defending champion Edgar Shimukonis at the Territorial Army Centre, in Grove Park.

The underdog had the better of the first round against the Army man, his tighter boxing racking up the points.

However, normal service appeared to have resumed as Shimukonis gradually took charge in the second.

Allahdad had no intentions however of just surviving until the final bell against the champion and made his move in round three, dropping his opponent for the first time with a body shot.

Shimukonis rose unsteadily to his feet, but the end was not delayed for long as Allahdad caught him with a left and then a right to put him down for the full count.

There was nearly double cause for celebration for Hayes ABC as Aaron Sinclair came close to another surprise win in the 56kg class, before losing a majority decision to Ramez Mahmoud of Gator ABC.

This was still an encouraging performance by Sinclair in only his fourth fight.

Hayes’ latest show takes place on Friday at The Concorde club, first fight at 8pm.
