Ta­ble ten­nis duo win it but not for Hilling­don

HILLING­DON duo Ron Bryant and Fanny Speck emerged vic­to­ri­ous in the GLL 2014 Bet­ter Club Games ta­ble ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion – but for another bor­ough.

Bryant, a re­tired Uxbridge post­man, and Speck, who plays ta­ble ten­nis with Eastcote, were granted the op­por­tu­nity to play for Eal­ing be­cause they are mem­bers of sports clubs there.

And they even beat the Hilling­don's team of Sue Mer­i­can and George Reidy in the semi-fi­nals on there way to the ti­tle.

In what turned into a re­verse of last year's fi­nal, Bryant and Speck beat their Waltham For­est op­po­nents, 11-7 11-5 in a match watched by more than 400 spec­ta­tors.

Com­peti­tors took part in nine sport­ing events in­clud­ing bad­minton, short ten­nis, swimming, timed cy­cle, darts, where Hilling­don fin­ished sec­ond, and short and long mat bowls at the Cop­per Box Arena

Hilling­don took ninth place over­all in the an­nual contest, in­volv­ing more than 600 com­peti­tors aged 55 or over, S ADAMS, R Hop­kins, J Adams and B Bruce helped Jack-Hi to take a 65-52 win over neigh­bours Court Park this week.

The four­some were the top rink for Jack-Hi, win­ning 27-16 while M Young, D Sk­il­man, J Green­away and A Green­away won their rink 20-15. The other rink was won by Court Park as M Cot­terell, J Cot­terell, F Pickard and P Grosvenor nar­rowly came through 21-18.
