Table tennis duo win it but not for Hillingdon
HILLINGDON duo Ron Bryant and Fanny Speck emerged victorious in the GLL 2014 Better Club Games table tennis competition – but for another borough.
Bryant, a retired Uxbridge postman, and Speck, who plays table tennis with Eastcote, were granted the opportunity to play for Ealing because they are members of sports clubs there.
And they even beat the Hillingdon's team of Sue Merican and George Reidy in the semi-finals on there way to the title.
In what turned into a reverse of last year's final, Bryant and Speck beat their Waltham Forest opponents, 11-7 11-5 in a match watched by more than 400 spectators.
Competitors took part in nine sporting events including badminton, short tennis, swimming, timed cycle, darts, where Hillingdon finished second, and short and long mat bowls at the Copper Box Arena
Hillingdon took ninth place overall in the annual contest, involving more than 600 competitors aged 55 or over, S ADAMS, R Hopkins, J Adams and B Bruce helped Jack-Hi to take a 65-52 win over neighbours Court Park this week.
The foursome were the top rink for Jack-Hi, winning 27-16 while M Young, D Skilman, J Greenaway and A Greenaway won their rink 20-15. The other rink was won by Court Park as M Cotterell, J Cotterell, F Pickard and P Grosvenor narrowly came through 21-18.
