A RESIDENTS’ meeting had to be called off at the last minute when committee members turned up at their village hall venue and found it had no heating or lighting.

The Harefield Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (HTRA) was due to meet at the Park Lane Village Centre on Monday last week.

The centre is connected to Harefield Library, in Park Lane, Harefield, and the electrical fault was discovered when routine maintenance work was being carried out there.

Library manager Lara Marshall said: “Our maintenance company came to the centre to do some routine work and they thought there was a fault and could not get the heating or lighting working.

“There had been a leak in the roof which was dripping onto electrical cables and they were trying to sort that out but unfortunately it could not be fixed in time for the meeting.

“What was meant to be quite a straightforward maintenance job turned into something much more complicated, but everything was fixed and back to normal by the Friday and the group have now managed to sort out a new date for their meeting,” she said.

The HTRA has now rescheduled its meeting to be held on Monday, December 8, at 7.30pm in the Park Lane Village Centre.

Secretary Wendy Rice-Morley said: “The new date has been set and it will be a good catch-up due to the November meeting being cancelled at the last minute because of electrical problems in the hall.

“We hope as many people can attend as possible as we always rely on the support of residents.”

Topics on the agenda for the December meeting include planning issues affecting the village – housing, the Red and Yellow plan for a dementia care village on the Medi Parc land near to Harefield Hospital, an update on HS2, health matters and other concerns affecting villagers.
