Put Randall site to good historic use

- Norton NatWest Edinburgh

THE closure of Randall’s historic family business raises the question of what is going to happen to the premises.

I have consulted some of the members of Uxbridge Local History Society, and there is a strong feeling that the listed Art Deco building would make a good home for a borough museum or heritage centre.

Hillingdon Council has committed itself to the provision of such a facility, but on the St Andrew’s Park site. A museum in Vine Street, much nearer the town centre, would seem to be a much more suitable place.

KEN PEARCE Road, Uxbridge and sleigh in Harefield Tackle’s window. No.

Was it the fantastic gingerbread house, tree and parcels in Harefield Bakery? No.

Perhaps it was the life-size Santa with reindeer and snowman in Harefield Carpets. No. Well, who then? It was Harefield Optician, with their 18-inch tree and hare. Yes, hare!

The mayor particularly liked the hare, even though this is in the shop all year round and not part of the festive display, although tinsel was hung on it.

After all the hard work and effort put into the majority of the window displays (I doubt they will bother next year) all I can say is: “Mayor, you should have gone to Specsavers.” MS C BLOOMFIELD

We’ve also lifted restrictions for all our basic bank account holders so they can use any Link ATM.

We do understand that some of our customers do not use the internet or a mobile phone app and prefer to be served over the counter. As a result we have come to an agreement with the local post office, which is close to the branch, and there are a further four post offices within a 1.2-mile radius, so that customers can withdraw cash, check balances and make deposits free of charge. Our local business customers are now also able to get coinage.

There are two other branches within a two-mile radius – Hayes branch is 1.2 miles away and Southall branch is 1.9 miles away.

We would be happy to discuss proposals with any organisation or community group who may be interested in acquiring the premises once we leave. For more information please visit locality.org.uk.
