Haigh shines but others miss chances

HOCKEY

-

KEVIN Haigh kept up his fine scoring form but Eastcote men’s first XI stuttered to a draw against mid-table opposition.

Haigh scored in the first half, but several more opportunities were wasted and Wallingford hit back after the break.

The result on Saturday coupled with the last week’s postponement because of a frozen pitch means Eastcote have slipped to five points behind Oxford Hawks seconds and Oxford seconds in the division.

However, the Boars do have a game in hand. They play Staines seconds on Saturday, January 10.

In the same division, Old Merchant Taylors’ were narrowly beaten at home by Oxford Hawks seconds (3-2). Their next game is at home to Wycombe on January 17.

The women’s team are already on their Christmas break and there was festive cheer for the U14s Dragons, who won their first match of the season 5-4 against Ealing, thanks to a hat-trick from Ollie Lazarevic and goals by Sherwin Von Gurm and Tunveer Mangat.
