JLS STAR PRESENTS AWARDS

-

OUTSTANDING children and young people in care were congratulated by a JLS pop star at a special awards ceremony.

Boy band member JB Gill gave prizes to the winners of the Kids in Care Awards, hosted by Hillingdon Council.

The ceremony recognises young people who have made an outstanding achievement in their lives – from making good progress at school to excelling in sport or making a contribution to the community.

After receiving their awards from the singer, who rose to fame with X Factor success story JLS, the audience were treated to a performance from pop group KIN.

The British band has supported Professor Green, landed BBC Radio 1xtra’s ‘Track of the Week’ and can call footballer Theo Walcott a fan.

Held at the Sofitel Hotel in Heathrow, the awards ceremony was organised with help from a panel of young people who are ex-Kids in Care Award winners.

Councillor David Simmonds, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “We are proud of how our looked after children are overcoming difficult circumstances to achieve personal success.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone who received an award, their stories are a real inspiration and it’s important to recognise and celebrate their achievements.”
