Ice rink proved a big­ger draw this year

SKATER num­bers at Uxbridge’s fes­tive ice rink this year were well up on 12 months ago.

As the fi­nal pack­ing up of the sea­sonal skat­ing venue took place this week, fig­ures re­leased by Hilling­don Coun­cil showed 27 per cent more peo­ple took to the ice out­side Hilling­don Civic Cen­tre than last year.

A to­tal of 18,484 skated, com­pared to 14,611 last year.

In 2012-13, 11,180 vis­ited the rink.

The rink was cov­ered this year mean­ing what­ever the weather, ev­ery­one could have a go at ice skat­ing over the fes­tive pe­riod.

Bor­ough res­i­dent Matt Wilkins won a free fam­ily skat­ing ses­sion on­line via the coun­cil’s Twit­ter feed.

He said: “Yes, it was bril­liant, the whole fam­ily had a re­ally great time skat­ing round.”
