Winless run continues as Hanwell down rock-bottom Hayes

-

PAUL Palmer is starting to realise the size of the task he faces to keep AFC Hayes up this season after their winless run continued this week.

Palmer took over from Ian Crane at the turn of the year but lost his first game in charge, on New Year’s Day, 4-0 at Egham and again at Hanwell Town on Saturday.

Goals from Fedel Williams and big striker Ryan Debattista were not enough to save Hayes from a heavy 5-2 defeat to Town and kept them waiting for their first win since early October.

Palmer will be hoping the elusive first three points will arrive when his rock-bottom Hayes club visit eighth-placed Chalfont St Peter at the weekend.

Hayes’ Southern League Division One Central neighbours Northwood extended their unbeaten run to six games with a goalless draw at Godalming.

Barton Rovers, who have held the upper hand in three previous encounters with Northwood this season, were due to visit Chestnut Avenue last night (Tuesday) before Mark Burgess’ side travel to St Ives Town on Saturday.

Kevin Warner bagged a brace for Uxbridge as the Reds were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Rugby Town at the weekend to end their own unbeaten sequence, of eight matches without defeat.

The weekend sees Tony Choules’ Red Army lock horns with Royston Town.

Meanwhile, there were six different scorers as Harefield United won 6-2 at home to Cockfosters in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

Harry Newman, Danny Bennell, Ricky Pither, Ben Gill, Liam Hind and Tom Hunt were all on target in a big win for the Hares.

Gary Edwards and Rob Gradwell strikes were not enough to stop Hillingdon Borough going down 3-2 at Holmer Green.
