INTU Uxbridge shopping centre is to donate £25,000 to the Michael Sobell Hospice to sponsor one of its nurses for a year.

The shopping mall will partner with the hospice, based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood, for 2015 and is in the early stages of planning a ‘Butterfly Ball’ to raise money.

It has also pledged to help redecorate a hospice room for patients and families.

Marketing manager at intu Uxbridge, Craig Higgins, said: “We’re proud to be in partnership with Michael Sobell Hospice, a charity that does some great work in our community.

“The intu Uxbridge team is looking forward to making a big difference this year by helping to raise vital funds for the charity.” A launch took place on Saturday (January 24) attended by Hillingdon mayor Catherine Dann and the hospice’s chief executive Helen Elliott.

Ms Elliott said: “We are delighted that Intu Uxbridge will be supporting us this year.

“Their campaign is a fantastic way of raising awareness for Michael Sobell Hospice within the local community and of course raising much needed funds for the care of our patients.”

As part of the fundraising efforts, the launch will also see pin badges, which represent a butterfly from the centre’s butterfly installation, go on sale for a minimum £1 donation which will go towards fundraising for the hospice.
