Bur­glar jailed af­ter be­ing caught steal­ing a bi­cy­cle

Sen­tenced to a year be­hind bars and given be­hav­iour or­der

A BUR­GLAR who tar­geted busi­nesses in Cowley has been jailed and handed a crim­i­nal be­hav­iour or­der – af­ter po­lice caught him steal­ing a push-bike.

Billy Brazil was sen­tenced to one year’s im­pris­on­ment for two counts of bur­glary and the theft of a pedal cy­cle at Uxbridge Mag­is­trates’ Court on Tues­day, April 14.

He was caught af­ter po­lice saw him steal­ing a bi­cy­cle in High Street, Yiewsley on Jan­uary 28.

Uni­formed re­sponse team of­fi­cers gave chase and ar­rested him in a nearby car park.

Brazil, 36, of Lily Drive, West Dray­ton, was sub­se­quently charged with com­mit­ting two sep­a­rate bur­glar­ies at busi­ness premises in Iver Lane, Hilling­don, on Novem­ber 6 and 18 last year.

In ad­di­tion to his jail sen­tence, Brazil was or­dered to pay £80 costs and was handed a three­year crim­i­nal be­hav­iour or­der, pro­hibit­ing him from con­sum­ing al­co­hol in any public place un­less a li­censed premises; pos­sess­ing any form of opened al­co­holic ves­sel un­less in a li­censed premises; as­so­ci­at­ing in a public place in Eng­land or Wales with a named in­di­vid­ual; and en­ter­ing Berberis Walk, in West Dray­ton, in­clud­ing any premises, gar­den, pave­ment or the al­ley­way be­tween Berberis Walk and Lau­rel Lane.

Hilling­don Bor­ough Com­man­der Nick Down­ing said: “This is a fan­tas­tic re­sult for the vic­tims and wider com­mu­nity who have been af­fected by Brazil’s ac­tions.

“This case demon­strates how bur­glary and an­ti­so­cial be­hav­iour teams work in tan­dem and use ev­ery tac­tic and re­source avail­able to pro­tect our com­mu­ni­ties and keep our neigh­bour­hoods crime free.

“By se­cur­ing and pre­sent­ing the best ev­i­dence be­fore the courts, a strong and lengthy crim­i­nal be­hav­iour or­der has been served against Brazil, in ad­di­tion to a year-long jail term, fur­ther pro­tect­ing the res­i­dents and ar­eas he blighted.

“Our polic­ing team is res­o­lute and re­lent­less in the pur­suit of crim­i­nals like Brazil and our com­mit­ment to mak­ing Hilling­don the most hos­tile en­vi­ron­ment for bur­glars and the wider crim­i­nal fra­ter­nity never been stronger.”
