Final day party for United fans
SPORT Having secured survival, manager Lewis wants recognition for brave team HAYES & YEADING
INTERIM manager Tristan Lewis has urged Hayes & Yeading United fans to create a party atmosphere as the club looks to sign off the season on a high.
There is plenty for the club to celebrate as they bring down the curtain on another eventful Conference South campaign with the visit of St Albans City on Saturday.
Lewis and his players have secured survival with some improved performances in recent weeks, including a battling 1-0 win at the weekend with 10 men against Concord Rangers, thanks to a Christian Smith goal.
Things are looking up away from matters on the field as well.
Chairman Tony O’Driscoll has secured the financial future of the club with a £300,000 injection of funding and put the wheels in motion for a return to the club’s Beaconsfield Road home later this year.
Victory over the Saints this weekend would make it three wins on the bounce and Lewis hopes United supporters turn out in their droves at York Road and salute the efforts of the team.
He said: “I think the players deserve it for their performances over the last few games. The effort on show has been magnificent in recent weeks.
“Our budget is miniscule compared to other teams in the league and over the last nine games, we’ve outperformed Ebbsfleet, who have spent loads of money.
“I hope it will be a bit of a party atmosphere. A lot of the kids will be coming along and we want to create a nice feeling.
“I think people have to understand what went on was nothing to do with the people in charge now nor any of the players, so they don’t deserve the negativity.
“I told the players a couple of weeks ago that we could win the last three games and we’re now one step away from that.
“Let’s sign off with a win and enjoy the last game of the season. The players deserve a bit of credit and hopefully we will get a good crowd.”
Meanwhile, Wealdstone finished their season a week early in the Conference South as they crushed Maidenhead United 4-1 thanks to goals from Shaun Lucien, Jonny Wright, Jefferson Louis and Matt Ball.
