WEST Drayton middleweight Khaliq Miah is living the dream as he prepares to make his debut in the UK’s premier boxing league early next month.

The 20-year-old (pictured) will lace up the gloves for the first time in the televised Queensbury Boxing League competition on Saturday, May 9, to take on Londoner Joel ‘Smoke’ Wanderema.

Miah is a former amateur standout who represented West Ham ABC in four senior finals has built up an impressive record outside the amateur ranks, racking up 30 wins against just one loss.

And the talented young prospect believes he as all the attributes needed to become a major star on Eurosport next month.

Talking ahead of his big debut, Miah said: “I’ve been following the league on British Eurosport for a long time now and I always said I’d be competing in the competition one day, and boxing on May 9 will be a dream come true. Although the show’s fans won’t have seen anything of me yet, I believe I’ve got the style to mix it with the very best in the middleweight division, and I’m ready to get the crowd rocking on my debut and get people talking about myself.”

Miah’s opponent Wanderema only recently joined the show and is the only fighter to beat rising middleweight knockout specialist Faraz Akram, but Miah believes the pressure will not get to him when he steps out in front of the TV cameras.

He added: “No matter who I box, I always feel comfortable under pressure and whatever Wanderema brings to the ring won’t bother me.

“I’m the full package and I don’t mind taking a shot, so the league’s fans can look forward to something special when I enter the competition.”

Miah’s debut in the competition will take place in the Oak’s arena at the Epsom Downs Racecourse, in Surrey.
