Buster finally makes it back home

-

BUSTER the puppy has had an emotional reunion with a West Drayton family after vanishing while out for a walk.

Louise Wheelwright and her daughter Lauren were walking Buster and fellow Yorkshire terrier Tilly in Thorney Park, Iver, last month when the dogs spotted a rabbit and ran after it into some bushes.

Only Tilly returned, despite repeated calls for Buster.

Mrs Wheelwright’s husband Lee who had been at the family home in Archie Close, West Drayton, joined in the search.

He said: “We called and called for over two hours, climbing through thick bramble bushes and searching a nearby motorway hard shoulder in case he had made his way onto the highway and been hit by a car.

The search continued into the late evening and the family eventually had to give up hope for the day before resuming the next morning.

Mr Wheelwright added: “We didn’t really sleep all night and returned to the park at 6.30am where we were joined by a force of family, friends and even strangers.

“There were friends who had travelled over 20 miles to help us look, friends with cutters and shovels to help dig if we did find him stuck in a rabbit hole, people even bought their dogs over to help sniff him out and so many people shared my post on Facebook.”

After searching all day the Wheelwrights had to accept that Buster may not be seen again and broke the news to their three children. Then came a call to the family home from a vet in Battersea who said a dog matching Buster’s description had arrived there.

The family drove to the site, where they were delighted to discover Buster waiting for them.

Mr Wheelwright said: “We couldn’t believe it was actually him. We were told that a Polish lady had found him near to a very busy road, and stopped and picked him up.

“Apparently she had very broken English so we’re not sure why she took him to Battersea but we are so grateful to her.

“We really thought that we had lost him, and we’re so pleased that he’s back home and safe.”

The Wheelwrights would like to track down the lady who found Buster in order to thank her. Email jack.abell@ trinitymirror.com if you have information.
