Public vote makes care team awards extra special
NHS trust honours the hard work and dedication of its staff
HILLINGDON Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced the winners of its annual staff awards at a glittering ceremony last week.
Winners in seven categories were honoured at the Park Inn hotel, in Bath Road, Heathrow, on Friday, April 24.
The awards were presented by Shane DeGaris, chief executive of the trust, which runs both Hillingdon Hospital, in Pield Heath Road, and Mount Vernon Hospital, in Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.
He said: “The awards provide a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our staff and say thank you for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
“What really made it special this year was the response from the public. We had a huge number of nominations, which really shows our staff have a lasting impact on the lives of their patients.”
This year, members of the public were invited to take part for the first time, by nominating staff in the Compassionate Care category. Hillingdon Hospital staff nurse Jackie Spencer won the category with more than 170 nominations.
Among those who nominated her was a patient living outside London, whose family she helped find accommodation near the hospital, while other patients praised her for her care and gentle manner. The winners were kept a closely guarded secret until the ceremony, which also celebrated staff who have reached a long service milestone with the trust.
The Quality & Innovation award went to the Hillingdon Hospital’s Critical Care Outreach Team; the Outstanding Demonstration of Care Values award went to Michelle Millson, from the hospital’s Paediatric Audiology department; the Outstanding Teamwork award went to the Mount Vernon Minor Injuries Unit; Natalie’s award went to Hillingdon’s Enhanced Recovery in Maternity Team; the Chief Executive’s individual award went to Angela Wilson, in Hillingdon’s surgery department; and the Chief Executive’s team award went to the Children’s and Young People with Diabetes Team, from Hillingdon Hospital.
