Guide can help you be good to go

-

WEST Drayton care home showed support for family carers in Dementia Awareness Week.

Care UK’s The Burroughs care home on Mill Road, West Drayton, provided a ‘Good to Go’ guide to helping those living with dementia and their loved ones to get out and about this summer.

The guide explains how to make the most of every outing, big or small, with practical advice and words of encouragement volunteered by people working in Care UK care homes, as well as residents and family carers.

Josephine Thomas, home manager at The Burroughs, understands how easy it is to fall into a routine of staying indoors with the demands placed on carers.

She said: “It is absolutely essential that family carers in West Drayton are given support and practical advice.

“It’s so important to remember that being ‘good to go’ does not have to mean going far afield or on long days out. For someone living with dementia, it can be enough to simply watch the wildlife in the garden, or to walk to a local coffee shop.”

Free copies of Good to Go are available to pick up from The Burroughs care home.

It can be downloaded from www.careuk.com/ goodtogo.

Dementia Awareness Week was Monday 18 to Sunday May 24.
