A bad hair day for poor puss who was dyed pink by his owner

-

YOU’VE heard of the Pink Panther but what about a pink cat? When a member of the public called us to say they had found a pink cat we were sure there must have been a mistake.

Sadly, the story was true, and we were shocked when we went to collect the poor puss from South Oxhey on June 3.

“The poor cat was a vivid shade of pink, and certainly didn’t look very impressed. I was worried about him ingesting toxins and being poisoned, so took him straight to the vets,” said animal welfare officer, Tracy Deamer.

The vets tried various baths to remove the pink, but it was clearly more than just food colouring as nothing could shift it. They knew they had to remove the pink in order to get rid of any toxins within the dye – especially as cats like to groom their fur.

In the end the best thing they could do was to give the poor chap a very short hair cut to remove the pink.

“It’s never a good idea to dye any animal, please just don’t do it. Animals are not toys,” said Tracy.

“We have managed to find the cat’s owner who now realises it was a stupid thing to do and has done the right thing by signing him over to RSPCA care.”

The poor puss has been named flamingo, and we are looking forward to seeing his black and white coat grow back. We can already see he’ll be a handsome chap.

Flamingo has now been neutered and vaccinated, and is looking for a loving forever home. If you would like to adopt him, please contact Cheryl on 0208 966 9688 or email info@rspcamiddlesex.org. uk.
