Comic brings fun and mischief to shopping centre

- By Steve Bax steve.bax@trinitymirror.com

MISCHIEF and mayhem will be in plentiful supply this summer as The Beano comic takes over an Uxbridge shopping centre.

Young visitors to intu Uxbridge, formerly The Chimes, will be able to join in graffiti workshops, a ‘prank academy’ and school yard games.

There will also be a competition where one lucky winner and a friend will be immortalised in a Beano comic strip alongside Dennis the Menace and Gnasher.

Dennis will be making an appearance on Friday, August 14 to pose for pictures with children and show how the pranks are done.

And this Friday, Beano cartoonist Kev Sutherland is hosting a comic art masterclass at intu, where visitors can learn how to create their very own comic strip.

Marketing manager at intu Uxbridge, Craig Higgins, said: “The Beano is taking over intu Uxbridge to kick-start our summer – and we can’t wait to see the pranks, jokes and mischief our visitors will get up to.”

Speaking about the competition, he added: “Just imagine becoming an actual comic book star – this truly is a ‘ money can’t buy’ prize.”

To enter the competition, shoppers need to simply submit a picture to the intu Uxbridge Facebook app at www.facebook.com/ intuUxbridge with the hashtag #mymenace.

The most menacing picture from across all intu centres will be chosen as the winner.

Booking is required for the ‘prank academy’ and for the Kev Sutherland masterclass.

The Beano was first published by DC Thomson in July 1938 and has a weekly readership of around 528,000.
