NORTHWOOD wasted no time in racing into the lead against Barton Rovers but the Bedfordshire side maintained their hold over Mark Burgess’ boys on Saturday.

Burgess and coach Simon Huggett were back in the dugout after a week away but not even their return could inspire the Woods to three points against a team they failed to beat in four attempts last season.

They had barely even taken their seats when the deadlock was broken by Max Holland after just 37 seconds at Chestnut Avenue.

Rovers hit back through Alex Condon’s controversial effort, which the hosts claimed had not crossed the line, but parity was only restored for a moment before Louis Stead put the Woods back in front.

But the Barton curse came back to haunt them again as Claudio Dias grabbed a share of the spoils for the visitors.

Northwood turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend as they battle Ryman Premier League side Harrow Borough for a place in the next round.

Uxbridge are also in first qualifying round action this weekend at Heybridge Swifts and go into the cup tie full of confidence after a double from Wayne Carter and one each from Matty Woods and Kevin Warner sunk Potters Bar Town 4-1 at Honeycroft.

AFC Hayes took a break from their Combined Counties Premier duties on Saturday but return to the field at Farm Park when Colliers Wood United come to town in three days’ time.

Hillingdon Borough’s Wembley dream is over after they were knocked out of the FA Vase by Potton. Harefield United are still waiting for their first Spartan South Midlands Premier victory of the season.
