Syria bombing a ‘political football’

- GRAHAM HODGIN The Vale, Acton

READING J.A. Liston’s letter (Corbyn Must go – Gazette, January 22) reminded me of the end of Dr Strangelove.

The final scene with the cowboy riding the nuclear bomb bronco style, plummeting to earth to

annihilate innocent civilians.

If the UK bombing of Syria is essential to destroying the rabid ISIS/Daesh then why did Cameron only bomb for a few days? Just enough time to get the headlines.

The bombing of Syria was a political football. Firstly as revenge for parliamentary democracy thwarting their plans last time. The arrogant elite ‘don’t like it up em!’... Secondly to drive a wedge through the LP by giving the old dinosaur Blairites the ammo to attack Corbyn.

And the media piled in behind Benn – ‘what a wonderful speech!’ they all applauded. And what did Benn’s razor like analysis of a very complex situation boil down to, ISIS

are really, really bad people.

As for pressing the button – it’s the US state, in the first instance who get to decide whether the UK can have a choice to launch it’s WMD. And who wants those extremists anywhere near the apocalypse button? They’re the ones that launched a illegal war on Iraq, that led to the destabilising of the region that created the breeding ground for ISIS.

And to distract from a succession of disastrous policies the establishment are blaming the Muslim community for everything.

It was the Jews in the 1930’s, today Muslims are the scapegoats.
