Reach for the top with the Gherkin Challenge

-

RACE up to the top of one of London’s most popular landmarks for an unforgettable challenge in the name of charity.

Children’s charity NSPCC is calling out to all west Londoners who fancy running up a skyscraper to do so for a good cause.

The annual Gherkin Challenge allows climbers to step inside the iconic building and with every stride know they are helping to raise money for the charity’s crucial work with some of Hounslow, Hillingdon, Harrow, Hammersmith and Fulham, and the UK’s most vulnerable young people.

On reaching the top ‘Gherkineers’ will have a one-off opportunity to enjoy the stunning panoramic views across the capital while toasting their achievement with a glass of bubbly.

People are required to raise at least £200 each and the challenge can be taken on your own or alongside friends as part of a team.

NSPCC head of participation events, Victoria Kellaway, said: “The Gherkin Challenge is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself as you ascend to the top either on your own, or alongside family and friends as part of a team.

“However you choose to do it, every step will make a difference for vulnerable children across the UK.

“On average a child contacts ChildLine every 25 seconds. With this in mind, we’ve set a target of raising £200 sponsorship for taking on The Gherkin Challenge which will help pay for 50 children to get the support they need.”

The NSPCC helps protect vulnerable children and prevent abuse through a number of projects and services including ChildLine – the UK’s free, 24-hour confidential helpline.

The charity runs a number of programmes at its West London Service Centre on Swan Road, Hanworth.

Registration for the event is now open and the entry fee is £20 per adult; £10 for children aged 18 or under; or £70 for a team of four with a sponsorship target of £200 per person.

If you don’t fancy taking the stairs you can purchase a ‘champagne lift pass’ for £50 or £80 for two.

The event is due to be held on Sunday June 19.
