Jams and queues before shop opens

Shoppers flock to launch of new Aldi store

A NEW Aldi store was officially opened with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning at 8am.

The Victoria Road store is the supermarke­t chain’s latest Greater London store as part of Aldi’s continued expansion across London, and offers customers ‘greater shopping choice and convenienc­e’.

But drivers residents are and being warned of delays to their journeys thanks to shoppers keen to try out the new store.

Nearby resident Ken Hawkins said: “Traffic is logjammed in both directions in Victoria Road as traffic tries to enter and exit the site.”

The new store arrives ahead a £25.8 million developmen­t in South Ruislip, including an Asda supermarke­t and cinema complex.

Shoppers now benefit from 1,500 product lines at the store, including a range of fresh produce plus a wide range of weekly ‘Specialbuy­s’.

‘Specialbuy­s’ occur every Thursday and Sunday and offer customers a range of products from gardening tools to electrical items.

Chris Peters, Aldi store manager, said: “The team and I really enjoyed meeting our customers, and we hope to welcome more into the store in the coming months.

“The opening week ‘SpecialBuy­s’ seemed to go down very well, and we hope our first customers enjoyed shopping with us today.”

OOpeningi week k ‘Specialbuy­s’ include: Girls and Boys Bikes (was £79.99, now £39.99), Sonic Cleaners (was £79.99, now £39.99), Steam Generator Iron Sets (was £59.99, now £39.99), and DAB Alarm Clock Radios (was £17.99,£17 99 now £8.99).£8 99)

The store has created over 35 jobs for the local community, and Aldi is still looking to fill a number of vacancies including Assistant Store Managers, Store Assistants and Caretakers.
