A Hillingdon midwife who helped a grieving young couple has been hailed as ‘amazing’ after receiving a public vote award.

The winners of Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s annual staff awards, which include a publicly voted accolade, were announced this month.

Midwife Denise Ahmed scooped the Compassionate Care Award after she was nominated by a young mother and father, who tragically lost their daughter due to complications during the pregnancy.

They said Denise was exceptionally kind and understanding, remaining calm and professional throughout. She stayed way beyond her shift to support them.

They described her as an amazing lady, a credit to her profession and an asset to the trust and to the whole community.

Trust chief executive Shane DeGaris said: “These awards celebrate just some of the fantastic work that our staff do every day.

“We know as an organisation that it’s the people – our staff – who really make the difference to the care we deliver and this was a perfect opportunity to say thank you and well done to not only the winners, but all those who were shortlisted for the awards.”

The NHS Trust launched the awards to pay tribute to the 3,300 staff working at Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital .

The winners, of seven different categories, were announced at a celebration event held at the Park Inn Hotel, Heathrow. A Hillingdon Hospital midwife previously spoke out on female genital mutilation after opening a centre to help women affected.
