Bands given a golden chance to shine on

Hayes FM presenter Hughie Dixon reviews the live band scene

-

SO, how does £500 grab you? Well, the Crock of Gold pub on Ruislip, High Street are looking for bands (originals and covers) to compete in their upcoming Battle Of The Bands competition which will commence on Saturday May 28 and run every weekend until the grand final on Sunday August 7.

Judges will be hidden among the punters and staff and will be looking and listening out for good music, showmanship and class.

Best original act will collect £500 in cash and will get the opportunity to appear on my radio show to perform an unplugged set on or around Tuesday August 9.

Best cover band will also receive £500 in cash plus a guaranteed four paid gigs at The Crock of Gold over the next 12 months.

If you’re a musician in a full band or a duo/trio etc and think you’ve got what it takes, email the Crock of Gold management at wynne. jason@hotmail.co.uk with a link to your group or a brief blog of what you’re about.

Make sure to state which category you’re entering (originals or covers) and don’t forget to include your phone number as well. Best of luck.

As usual. there’s live and original music at The Crown and Treaty pub in Oxford Road, Uxbridge, on Friday.

Yuck Indie continue their fourth birthday celebrations with a show from Cara Cara, plus an as yet unannounced support act. Hailing from Hertfordshire, this four-piece powerhouse offer you a quality blend of alternative rock. Free entry before 10pm and just £5 after.

PollyPikPocketz are a band new (ish) to the local scene (Harefield/ West London). They’re punk, they’re grunge and they’re fun. They’re the kind of pop music your mother used to love before you came along and chilled her out.

Think Lena Lovich meets Transvision Vamp via Bananarama and you might get an inkling as to what they’re about. If you don’t know who they are ask Auntie Google. One thing for sure is that PollyPikPocketz are in it for the right reasons. They play The Roadtrip and The Workshop in Old Street, London EC1V 9EY this Saturday, from 8pm, where you can enjoy free entry if you are a resident of planet earth.

Finally, the fantastic Ophelia Booth will be returning to play on my radio show on Tuesday May 10 with an unplugged set.
