Bikes and beers for a good cause

Harefield Gazette - - NEWS -

WALK, run, cycle or steer your narrow boat along the Grand Union Canal in an ale tasting marathon to help raise money for a west London hospital charity.

Comedian Harry Enfield will fire the ‘starting gun’ before mounting on his bike to pedal the 26-mile route from Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea to Harefield Hospital in Harefield, both specialist heart and lung centres.

Royal Brompton which has been visited by stars of Made in Chelsea in the past, has since the end of last year been home to a new state-ofthe-art operating theatre which was part-funded by Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity and recently visited by the health minister.

The Grand Canal Challenge is a first for the hospitals’ charity which is urging people to sign up to the event on June 26 which can be taken on as an individual, as part of a four person relay team or join at the halfway mark for the 13 mile challenge.

Along the route there will be refreshments including four thirstquenching taster ale stations set up to encourage people to keep moving.

Sights to see en-route include picturesque Hyde Park to some of the capital’s industrial past as well as taking in some of the countryside air before crossing the finish line by The Old Orchard pub in Harefield to celebrate.

There will be a finishers barbecue and beer festival and entertainment including a magician as well as live music.

A complimentary goody bag will be given to all participants at the end.

The registration fee is £30 per person.

There is a minimum amount of £150 to raise per person or £300 as part of a relay team.

All proceeds raised will be split between projects at both hospitals.
