Just bowled over by new look clubhouse

HAYES bowls fans can now enjoy a newly renovated bowling clubhouse in Pinkwell Park, after receiving some tender loving care from the local authority.

Hillingdon Council opened the new clubhouse on Monday, following rebuilding work funded it funded.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Ray Puddifoot, president of Harlington Bowls Club – Frank Valentine – and Russell Neal, a director at R. Bensons Property Maintenanc­e, who undertook the work, were joined by bowlers and other park visitors to mark the special occasion.

The works included removing a large part of the existing pavilion and fitting new doors, windows, ceilings, fencing, pathways and gates.

A new kitchen and alarm system were also put in place and the heating upgraded.

Mr Neal said: “London Borough of Hillingdon and R. Bensons Property Maintenanc­e worked in partnershi­p to deliver the refurbishm­ent works to Pinkwell Pavilion.

“The works were completed within a tight seven-week programme.

“By working closely throughout the contract, Hillingdon and R. Bensons Property Maintenanc­e were able to build upon their existing relationsh­ip to ensure that the works were system was undertaken to a high quality, and delivered within programme.”

The clubhouse will continue to be a valuable community facility with a local football team using the club changing rooms and a children’s nursery planned for early 2017.

Club president Mr Valentine said: “I think what the council has done here is really good, it was a ramshackle place before.

“I think they’ve done a fantastic job of it and I’m more than pleased.”

Cllr Puddifoot said: “The council has embarked on a programme of improving and rebuilding facilities like this because we believe in supporting activity and wellbeing for people of all ages.

“This pavilion will be used by bowlers, footballer­s, and when the nursery opens in 2017, small children too.

“It is asset for the whole community and I am delighted to be here on this special day.”
