Boris’s support for Colne Valley

-

BORIS Johnson has joined other local MPs who have signed the Charter to help protect and enhance the attractive landscape of the Colne Valley Park.

Loosely based on the Magna Carta, the Colne Valley Charter acknowledges that “… the Colne Valley Regional Park exists for the health of our souls and those of our ancestors and heirs…..” and presents a vision for the Colne Valley as “... high quality countryside, waterscapes, villages, green spaces and other amenities that provide a regionally significant destination for recreational, sporting, educational and cultural pursuits…”.

Some believe the Magna Carta was actually sealed on the north side of the Thames at Ankerwycke in what is now the Colne Valley Park.

Mr Johnson has added his signature to the charter along with Dominic Grieve, MP for Beaconsfield and Nick Hurd, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner.

He said: “I was pleased to be able to show my support for the beautiful countryside of the Colne Valley Park, a wonderful resource for a wide variety of wildlife and a key piece of our local community, used by millions of people each year.

“We must continue to protect it from major development proposals such as High Speed 2. Together with Nick Hurd, I am still fighting for the Colne Valley tunnel to defend such an asset and I was delighted the Transport Secretary has agreed to revisit the case for the tunnel extension.”
