U14s lead the way as the Whites triumph

-

DENHAM United U14s dominated their age group at the Tilehurst Tournament last weekend – with both the club’s teams reaching the final, writes Lisa Parrett.

The Whites and the Blues both knocked out teams from AFC Wimbledon in the semis to set up an all-Denham final, which the Whites won in the end.

But with the two teams playing a combined 17 games, losing one and conceding just three goals between them, both were in winning form.

The U11s came close to landing another win for Denham, but lost out in the last few minutes of their final against Marlow Girls Blue, going down 2-1. Grace Donaghey was player of the tournament for them.

The U15 Pumas also reached their age group final where they also suffered a narrow defeat, going down 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon.

This having knocked out their club-mates, Denham’s U15s Wildcats side on penatlies in the semis. Between them, the two Denham sides only lost two out of 16 games and scored a massive 41 goals. The U13s also gave a good account of themselves, losing just two of their seven matches, and were only denied a semi-final spot on goal difference.

All of which followed Denham’s own recent summer tournament, attended by some 160 teams over three days. The junior section saw some fantastic performances across all the Denham teams, from U9s through to U16s, with the U15s winning their final against Kinja before playing up an age in the U16s competition, where they just missed out on a place in the final.

The U14s narrowly lost to QPR in the semis, while the U9s showed how much they are developing with some lovely football, and the U11s, U12s and U13s also put in great team performances.

In the senior section, one of the Denham teams got through to the semis but lost out in a heartbreaking sudden-death penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, the club are hosting four weeks of open training sessions for girls in all age groups, which will run until the last week of June at The Den in Oxford Road, New Denham.

U10s to U13s (years 5-8) are 6-8pm on Mondays, while U15 and U16s are 6-8pm on Tuesdays.

Just show up on the day to register, or contact dulfc@live.co.uk.
