Pedestrian seriously hurt after collision with car

Man in critical condition with head and leg injuries

A MAN was rushed to hospital by air ambulance on Friday evening (July 1) after being hit by a car in Cowley.

Emergency services were called to Iver Lane at the junction with High Street, in Cowley, just after 6pm to reports a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car.

The man was flown to a hospital in central London suffering from head and leg injuries.

One witness, who lives in High Street, said: “The whole area was cordoned off with police tape all the way back towards the other set of lights.

“The police, TfL [Transport for London] and ambulance were there until around midnight and left after collecting all of the man’s items off the road and put them into a big clear bag.”

The emergency services were unable to confirm the condition of the man.

A spokespers­on for the Metropolit­an Police said: “We were called at 6.07pm in the evening to reports of a road traffic collision. “The man had a head injury.” Roads were closed after the incident until around 10pm.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene and sent an air ambulance, ambulance crew, a single responder in a car and an incident response officer.

A spokespers­on for LAS said: “We treated a man for a head and leg injury. He was taken by the air ambulance to a major trauma centre.”

The man was still in a critical condition at the time of going to press.
