Giggs the star again CYCLING

GRAHAM Giggs was starring again for Hayes-based Bath Road Cycling Club again this week.

The prolific cyclist recorded a time of 22.49 in the Oxonian 10 out at Kingston Bagpuize, in Oxford, and then rode in the Reading Cycling Club 10 at Knowl Hill, clocking 23.31.

In the midweek 9.2 mile time trial event on the roads of Black Park and Pinewood circuit, Giggs was at it again and fastest of eight Bath Roaders in 22.16.

Meanwhile, Dave Loader shone in the Hounslow & District Wheelers 25 on the Farnham road in by completing the distance in a time of 1.05.39.

Clark takes podium TRIATHLON

HILLINGDON Triathlete­s hosted the third triathlon of their three race series as a record number of competitor­s took on the challenge this year.

The event’s 75 competitor­s tackled the 700metre lake swim, 6km run and 26km cycle at Hillingdon Outdoor Activities Centre.

Clark Scholfield outsprinte­d Claudio Picco in the last few hundred metres on the bike to take first place while David Knight took third.

Kate Byrne continued her hat trick of wins by winning this race and taking sixth position overall. Holly Grundon and Caroline Whittaker completed the podium places.

U9s’ early silverware YOUTH FOOTBALL

WEST Drayton Youth U9s won their first piece of silverware of the season as they claimed victory in the last of their summer tournament­s on Saturday.

After starting slowly in the group stages, the team shone in the knockout rounds before overcoming the 30 heat, to beat Harrow St Mary’s 2-0 in the final.

Managed by Steve Campin, the squad consisted of Lewis Loveridge, Harkeerat Singh, Teghbir Bains, Takunda Malfo, Grace Grantham, Dylan Martin and Karim Guheruh.

Harlington double blow BOWLS

HARLINGTON bowlers suffered double defeat this week as they lost to Fassnidge 55-48 and Hayes 57-46.

A second rink slump cost them dearly in both games, though an impressive triple from Betty Poole, Brenda Reed and Derek Cutmore saw them score 28-15 against Fassnidge.

Harlington are looking to recruit new members for their Wednesday sessions from 2pm to 8pm. Coaching and equipment is available to use. For more informatio­n contact 01895 443559.
