Giggs the star again CY­CLING

GRA­HAM Giggs was star­ring again for Hayes-based Bath Road Cy­cling Club again this week.

The pro­lific cy­clist recorded a time of 22.49 in the Ox­o­nian 10 out at Kingston Bag­puize, in Oxford, and then rode in the Read­ing Cy­cling Club 10 at Knowl Hill, clock­ing 23.31.

In the midweek 9.2 mile time trial event on the roads of Black Park and Pinewood cir­cuit, Giggs was at it again and fastest of eight Bath Road­ers in 22.16.

Mean­while, Dave Loader shone in the Houn­slow & Dis­trict Wheel­ers 25 on the Farn­ham road in by com­plet­ing the dis­tance in a time of 1.05.39.

Clark takes podium TRIATHLON

HILLING­DON Triath­letes hosted the third triathlon of their three race se­ries as a record num­ber of com­peti­tors took on the challenge this year.

The event’s 75 com­peti­tors tack­led the 700me­tre lake swim, 6km run and 26km cy­cle at Hilling­don Out­door Ac­tiv­i­ties Cen­tre.

Clark Scholfield out­sprinted Clau­dio Picco in the last few hun­dred me­tres on the bike to take first place while David Knight took third.

Kate Byrne con­tin­ued her hat trick of wins by win­ning this race and tak­ing sixth po­si­tion over­all. Holly Grun­don and Caro­line Whit­taker com­pleted the podium places.

U9s’ early sil­ver­ware YOUTH FOOTBALL

WEST Dray­ton Youth U9s won their first piece of sil­ver­ware of the sea­son as they claimed vic­tory in the last of their sum­mer tour­na­ments on Satur­day.

Af­ter start­ing slowly in the group stages, the team shone in the knock­out rounds be­fore over­com­ing the 30 heat, to beat Har­row St Mary’s 2-0 in the fi­nal.

Man­aged by Steve Campin, the squad con­sisted of Lewis Loveridge, Har­keerat Singh, Tegh­bir Bains, Takunda Malfo, Grace Gran­tham, Dy­lan Martin and Karim Guheruh.

Har­ling­ton dou­ble blow BOWLS

HAR­LING­TON bowlers suf­fered dou­ble de­feat this week as they lost to Fass­nidge 55-48 and Hayes 57-46.

A sec­ond rink slump cost them dearly in both games, though an im­pres­sive triple from Betty Poole, Brenda Reed and Derek Cut­more saw them score 28-15 against Fass­nidge.
