Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett

Dedicated animal expert Marion Garnett, founder of the Ealing Animal Welfare Bazaar, continues her column

SOMEONE bumped into my car this week – that’s why I’m in a garage watching their car TV advert for the millionth time.

This particular advert shows a man gazing lovingly at a car, touching it reverently and then bonding with it by taking it for a run amidst spectacular scenery.

Not unlike how some people meet a dog, fall in love and then enjoy taking it for a walk in the countryside.

One key difference is that the plan should be to keep the dog for the whole of its life and not, like a car, just for a few years.

Roxy’s previous owner had her since she was a puppy. She had a litter of puppies, but the owner then found Roxy too expensive to keep so she came into the care of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Roxy’s a young bull mastiff who doesn’t quite understand what a big girl she is. She can get excited and boisterous so needs to learn boundaries. She doesn’t yet know a lot of commands, but is a quick learner so should respond well to further training.

She walks well on the lead and loves a cuddle and playing with her toys.

At present, Roxy has a fractured toe which means she will need to exercise gently when she goes home with her exercise being gradually built back up.

If you can see yourself falling in love with Roxy and bonding with her during walks in the park, call 0843 509 4444 or meet her at 4 Battersea Park Road SW8 4AA.

Sometimes it’s nice to send a Christmas card which is a bit different.

If that’s on the cards for you this year, the Old Windsor branch of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is holding a photoshoot where you and your family and dog, or just your dog(s) can be photographed with Father Christmas.

The photoshoot takes place at Battersea Old Windsor, Priest Hill, Englefield Green, Windsor SL4 2JN on December 3 and 4 from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Admission to the Santa Paws event is £4.50, which includes one photograph.

Reduced prices for additional prints.

Battersea is also holding their family carol concert on December 5 at 7pm in St Luke’s Church, Sydney Street, Chelsea.

Tickets for this wonderful evening must be bought in advance and are selling like hot cakes, so you’ll need to be quick to get one. Details from Battersea.org.uk.
