KIND-HEARTED students at an Uxbridge secondary school have turned their fundraising efforts to helping an unlucky charity that was targeted twice by burglars within weeks.

Two Harlington Hospice charity shops in West Drayton and Yiewsley were hit by callous thieves on Tuesday October 10 and Tuesday November 22.

Hundreds of pounds were stolen and more than £1,000 in damage was caused during the heartless break-ins.

But the tides may be turning for the Hillingdon -based hospice, as students of the Stockley Academy in Uxbridge’s Park View Road raised more than £400 after hearing of the awful thefts.

Principal of the school, Ann Colgan, said: “This is a fantastic example of how students can make a positive difference to their local community by giving their time and money, as well as having a lot of fun along the way.

“We look forward to many more opportunities to work with people in our local area.”

Harlington Hospice offers end-of-life care throughout the borough and supports families dealing with bereavement and loss.

The Harlington-based charities offers day care, home care and counselling.

In the first incident, just before 10.45pm on October 10 thieves broke into the shop in Broadway Parade in Station Road, stealing hundreds of pounds and causing almost £1,000 in damage.

On November 22, a cash box was stolen from the shop in Fairfield Road but it is unclear how much was stolen.

Head boy at the academy, Harry Aldred, said: “At Stockley, we are extremely proud to support local charities, and all students should be very proud of what they have done for this really important cause.”

The money was raised in a non-uniform day and students managed to rack up an impressive £413.77 for the charity.

It is unclear if the two burglaries are linked.
